Warrington Connect
Overview
Warrington Connect is a hybrid learning platform for the University of Florida's Warrington College of Business. It lets remote participants join live classes and meetings held in specially equipped classrooms, where they appear on the classroom screens with audio and video. They can also raise their hand and chat during the session. Warrington Connect runs in one classroom today, and we're expanding to more rooms. Other departments and colleges at UF have shown interest, and so have other universities.
My Role
Frontend Lead. I'm one of two main developers on Warrington Connect. The other developer handles the backend and the native macOS app that runs on the classroom machines. I build two frontends: the meeting app that participants join, and the admin portal for managing sessions, rooms, and hardware.
I also create and manage the documentation site's content for participants and staff. We work with a project manager and our IT director, and we take feature requests and bug reports from the faculty who teach with it.
The hardest part is that no off-the-shelf product does this, so we have to make every piece work together ourselves. In the meeting app, I integrated the Zoom Video SDK for audio and video and SignalR for real-time updates. All of that has to work with the backend, the macOS app, and each room's projectors, screens, and cameras. We also have to plan for future rooms that may not have the same hardware.
